Your Inner Superhero

You don’t need a cape to be a superhero!

Guaranteed, there are people in your life who look up to you, admire you, and wish they could be more like you. There are strangers who see you and say, “Dang! I wish I was more like them!”

Take this as a truth and walk a little taller. Throw back your shoulders, lift your chin, maybe add a little strut. Don’t let that inner voice or negative messages from others diminish your confidence and self of self-worth. Your body won’t know the difference and before you know it, you will feel like a superhero.

Own it. Rock it. You are a superhero. We need you. Now, please, go save the world.

Bring on the happy, Gretchen

Pie for Breakfast

Growing up, the day after someone’s birthday, more often than not my mom would say, “Let’s have cake for breakfast!” My siblings and I are still alive and well. I try to eat healthy but if I’ve had friends over and baked a pie, I say to myself, “Let’s have strawberry rhubarb pie for breakfast.” I’m still alive and well.

What silliness would bring you a smile to your face today? Go for it! You happy being!

Dog Energy

Need some dog energy today? Stay in your pajamas until noon. Eat ice cream for breakfast. Let the yardwork go for a week. Read a book or nap all afternoon. Have fun and let the lists go. Be present to the day and your inner longings.

If anyone asks, tell them it’s your inner dog.

Woof, woof, Gretchen

Aunt Ethel Buttonbox

My dad’s parents grew up in a family with limited resources where everything was saved, including buttons. My Great Aunt Ethel had an enormous button box. As kids, we loved to poke through her button box when we went to visit. To this day, I remember her as “Aunt Ethel Buttonbox!” And, confession, I have my own button box with decades of buttons.

Buttons are so simple and yet so vital to our everyday lives. It is easy to overlook them, to forget they are there. They are one of life’s small, invisible blessings. Buttons are a reminder that the world is full of simple wonders, if we remember to notice.   Counting buttons today!
