Aunt Ethel Buttonbox

My dad’s parents grew up in a family with limited resources where everything was saved, including buttons. My Great Aunt Ethel had an enormous button box. As kids, we loved to poke through her button box when we went to visit. To this day, I remember her as “Aunt Ethel Buttonbox!” And, confession, I have my own button box with decades of buttons.

Buttons are so simple and yet so vital to our everyday lives. It is easy to overlook them, to forget they are there. They are one of life’s small, invisible blessings. Buttons are a reminder that the world is full of simple wonders, if we remember to notice.   Counting buttons today!
