Always Be Kind

One thing many of us can agree on is that we can always use more kindness. Did you know that you benefit as much or more than the other person? Not only do you feel good, it sets off the feel-good chemicals in your brain, giving you a free “helper’s high.”

Need inspiration? Listen to Tim McGraw’s “Always be Humble and Kind.”

Spread the love, Gretchen

Waiting in the Forest

You can’t stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.  Winnie the Pooh

Research tells us that having friends increases our happiness. What can you do in the coming weeks to reach out to friends and family, or to someone new who might become a friend? We always wish we had the time. No better time than a pandemic to reconnect with an old friend when time’s gotten away from you.

Hi, my name is. . . .  Gretchen

The Value of Doing Nothing

Don’t underestimate the value of doing nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering. Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh’s philosophies are simple, yet profound. So simple anyone can do it! Why not practice like Pooh? Enjoy some time just going along and not bothering. You’ll be surprised at the results!

Pie for Breakfast

Growing up, the day after someone’s birthday, more often than not my mom would say, “Let’s have cake for breakfast!” My siblings and I are still alive and well. I try to eat healthy but if I’ve had friends over and baked a pie, I say to myself, “Let’s have strawberry rhubarb pie for breakfast.” I’m still alive and well.

What silliness would bring you a smile to your face today? Go for it! You happy being!

Dog Energy

Need some dog energy today? Stay in your pajamas until noon. Eat ice cream for breakfast. Let the yardwork go for a week. Read a book or nap all afternoon. Have fun and let the lists go. Be present to the day and your inner longings.

If anyone asks, tell them it’s your inner dog.

Woof, woof, Gretchen

The Upward Spiral of Gratitude

When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself. Tecumseh

Gratitude creates an upward spiral. It connects us to what is going well.

Quick! Name seven things you are grateful for! Repeat as necessary.

Life, resilience, purpose, passion, beauty, irreverence, dark chocolate caramels. . . . Gretchen

Looking Fear in the Face

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, “I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.” Eleanor Roosevelt

What fears are yours to carry today? What fears belong to someone else? Does it serve you to carry others’ fears?  Finish this sentence, “If fear didn’t stop me, today I would _____.”

When we carry burdens that aren’t our own, we drain our energy. Leaving us less able to take meaningful action and feeling less happy. Causing us to perpetuate a negative spiral instead of a positive spiral.

Let’s lift as we rise, Gretchen
